We live in a sea of environmental toxins. As of 70 years ago, a new campaign started in the United States called “Better Living Through Chemistry” and since that time, approximately 80,000 new chemicals have been introduced and, even further, most have never been tested for safety or for synergistic actions. In fact, 90% of these have not been tested for safety for human health. These contaminants are literally found everywhere on the planet.
I know this is scary, but the beautiful thing is that our bodies actually know what to do with these toxins - the process is called detoxification and it's happening within us all the time.
Detoxification is different than the word detox. A detox, or cleanse, is a short term, 1-30 day, program that involves restriction and elimination of certain foods, while supplementing with others, in order to up-regulate your body’s detoxification pathways. Detoxification, on the other hand, is the body’s own innate capacity to process chemical toxins and eliminate them from the body - all of which you will learn about in this course.
So if our body knows what to do with these toxins, why do we need to 'enhance' the process?
The current issue arises because the amount of these things that bombard our body on a daily basis is so great, that our detoxification processes become overwhelmed and can’t keep up. Plus, we are lacking nutritional requirements from phytochemicals in our everyday diets. As a result, our detoxifying systems are hit with a double whammy when it comes to trying to keep the body safe.
If our body's detoxification systems are impaired, our risk for hormonal imbalances, disease, and cancer increase greatly. Not only does the quality of our life suffer, but so does that of our children and their children, and so on. Hence the reason for this course...
The first section brings awareness about the environmental toxins within your home and your body's innate detoxifying capacity. The second section takes you through a 12 week program to first reduce the amount of environmental toxin exposure, next improve your body's ability to eliminate the current toxic burden, and finally to optimize your liver's ability to detoxify future exposures.
Your Instructor
I’m a lot like you – I’ve struggled to find balance with food, hormones, and training my entire life. Through high school and college I suffered from an eating disorder and exercise addiction which led to hypothyroidism and irregular periods – all in the name of fitting society’s mold of what it meant to be ‘fit’ and ‘healthy’.
Fast forward to when I found the empowering yet addicting sport of CrossFit – I was still obsessed with my body and the way it looked, but this time my focus was on getting strong and more proficient with this new sport. Long story short, I suffered again with hypothyroidism, adrenal fatigue, and PCOS – I felt like a hormonal dumpster fire.
And although I never wish these struggles upon anyone, overcoming them has given me the unique experience and insight to help you in your own battle against your inner demons.
My personal experience in overcoming mindset, hormonal, and behavior issues, along with my scientific background in Chemical and Biological Engineering gives me a unique perspective when coaching. Not only do I understand the principles of metabolism at a cellular level, but I show you how to take advantage of them through simple, yet effective daily actions. My own journey with nutrition has evolved into a passionate coaching career that I can’t wait to share it with you!
